Please send hot sauce

Okay so my title may actually have nothing to do with the topic I want to share with you.. Okay maybe a little.

I really need some hot sauce, Tabasco or not. You see they have this spicy pepper here thats called aji, it’s spicy but not like our spicy it’s a little less tasteful and alot more fire. It’s yellow and tiny, actually pea sized, but it leaves a kick so full you might not feel your lips for a minute.

Anyways, I want to talk about stepping out in faith.

You might think it has nothing to do with what I just talked about, but it does. Stay with me and I’ll explain.

God says to have faith like a mustard seed, but not a whole lot of people have understood that everyday in your mundane life in America or wherever you are, you still have just as much faith as the missionary you know to step out in God.

Sometimes we think of our lives as dull and less impacting as the people who have given up their lives, packed up as much as they could and moved off to a foreign country to serve God. Not only do we think of ourselves as dull but we tend to think of our selves as faithless. Alright so now you’re probably saying that I’m crazy. The only faith you think you use is to get up on a dreary Monday morning, get your expresso and drive through traffic to the office and try not to get road rage when that driver in front of you cuts you off.  Now sure that’s faith, but have you ever noticed how you have used faith in everyday life?

Alright now let’s go back to the hot sauce. Look at the Tabasco bottle and compare it to this tiny pea sized aji pepper. That chili, in which Tabasco is made with, is much bigger and has a lot of power to throw your taste buds off their seats. But you may look at this aji pepper and say “Wow you’ve got nothing on me!” and now you can’t feel your bottom lip because you’ve stuck the entire pepper in your mouth and chewed.

The Tabasco is the like the missionary in the other country or even just your very own pastor out in his ministry. You might look at these people and say “I wish I could have faith like you! Because I’ve got no kind of faith compared to you.” But if you start to compare yourself with others you may never notice all the faith God has stored in you. You may look like that little aji pepper. You may not even have as much juice inside of you as the missionary or even the guy next to you has, but god has gifted you with something so powerful, you could move mountains.

Everyday, since you have taken the Lord’s name as your father in heaven, you have stepped out in faith. Let me show you. From saying no to the ways of the world and giving up sinful lusts, to showing Gods genuine love in school, on the road, in the work place or even at home, you have used faith just as much as the next guy.

You might only be known by a few lonely people on the other side of town, but if people could just get a taste of your faith in God. It could make them just as strong as when a missionary goes over seas, to a country who’s language is long forgotten but still shows the love of and faithfulness of God just as good as the ones back home.

We’re all human, don’t beat yourself up because you’re faith is as small as an aji pepper. We all have just as much faith as the person beside us, don’t let the devil discourage you because you’re faith looks small. You might be the Tabasco sauce that the aji pepper (a missionary) might be sending prayers to God for.

Have faith in God because he knows what he’s doing. Even when times get rough. Reading the whole bible doesn’t make you a prophet but listening for God’s still soft voice can bring you closer to Him then you could ever imagine. So don’t ask God to “Please send hot sauce.” Because you might have all the faith somebody needs in they’re struggles.
